Idem Esse is a series of living pictures depicting the evolution throughout the ages of a human subject's perception of his neighbour. Être (Being), Paraître (Appearing), Sembler (Semblance of Being), Devenir (Becoming), Demeurer (Remaining), Rester (Staying) and Être (Being) depict the development of their encounter. Seated on an s-shaped loveseat, a puppeteer and a lifesize puppet offer a mirror-view where each movement toward the other is a movement toward himself. Combining magnetic capture and robotics as a kinetic mode of transmission between the protagonists, Idem Esse explores the puppet's capacity to reveal us to ourselves.
